Syracuse fans bid on items at 11th Annual Charity Sports Auction

Tables were lined with bowling balls, FitBits and signed athletic memorabilia. At 6:50 p.m., the backcourt of the Carrier Dome was peppered with a few curious Orange fans perusing the selections.

The 11th Annual Charity Sports Auction, presented by the David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics and the Sport Management Club and sponsored by Saab, was held on Wednesday night during the Syracuse men’s basketball game vs. Wisconsin.

All proceeds from the silent auction went to benefit the Salvation Army.

At halftime, more Syracuse fans flooded the backstage area to participate in the charity auction. A young girl in a Syracuse cheerleading uniform asked her parents to bid on a Spongebob Squarepants bowling ball.

“I need it,” she said.

Members of the Sport Management Club manned the folding tables that filled the floor. Each table had similarly themed items, with 359 items up for bid in total.

The most popular items were getaways to local hotels and resorts. The Syracuse and professional athletic memorabilia were huge ticket items as well.
