Vehicle strikes unidentified female in front of Schine
An unidentified female was hit by a car on University Avenue in front of Schine Student Center at approximately 4:35 p.m. on Thursday.
A black Saab struck the woman as she crossed the street walking toward Schine. The woman remained on the ground for several minutes until bystanders helped her to her feet and walked her into Schine.
Officers from the Department of Public Safety and Syracuse Police Department, as well as rescue officials from Rural/Metro and the Syracuse Fire Department, arrived on the scene at approximately 4:42 p.m. The woman told officials she was hit on the right side. She was wheeled out of Schine on a stretcher at approximately 4:52 pm. SPD officers declined to give her name or say what injuries she suffered.
The driver of the Saab remained at the scene and spoke with DPS Officer Nick Nugent. Nugent said the man, whose name he did not give, said he did not see the woman until the last minute.
‘It’s just a small thing – I think, anyways,’ said the man who declined to provide his name.
Benjamin Callahan, who was visiting a friend at SU, saw the accident and said the woman rolled on to the front of the car and then rolled off. Her leg twisted in an odd way as she fell, said Erick Friely, a sophomore psychology major and eyewitness.
‘She got hit pretty bad,’ Callahan said.
Officials declined to provide further comment.
