MBB : Syracuse to play in 2013 Maui Invitational
Syracuse will compete in the EA Sports Maui Invitational in 2013. The Orange is among the eight-team field announced in a tournament press release Monday.
SU won its only two previous appearances in the highly competitive early-season tournament in 1990 and 1998.
The 2013 field also includes Arkansas, Baylor, California, Gonzaga, Dayton, Minnesota and host Division-II Chaminade. The eight teams announced Monday are a part of the Championship Round of the tournament. Four more teams will play in the opening and regional games as part of the tournament, too. Those schools will be announced at a later date, according to the tournament release.
The games will be played at the Lahaina Civic Center in Maui, Hawaii. The tournament is often held in late November.
The 2013 tournament will be the 30th in the event’s history. In addition to Syracuse, Dayton and Gonzaga both won the Maui Invitational in 2003 and 2009, respectively.
