Chuck’s Cafe changes ownership, reopens Monday
Chuck’s Cafe, a popular bar for Syracuse University’s students, has been closed for the past six days due to a change in ownership.
The bar is in the process of receiving a new liquor license from the New York State Liquor Authority as well as undergoing renovations to the kitchen and the storage rooms, said new owner Stephen Theobald.
Chuck’s will re-open Monday for the Syracuse community, Theobald said. He added that there would be no drastic changes to the bar, despite circulating rumors.
“I wouldn’t change a thing. This place is the bomb,” Theobald said. “The staff is the same, the bartenders are the same and the atmosphere is the same.”
He added that the liquor licensing process was out his control and forced the bar to close for the past week. Theobald decided to be productive during this week and make updates to the back-end of the bar.
Theobald was a loyal Chuck’s customer for more than 30 years before deciding to buy the bar.
Said Theobald: “I love this place to death.”
