SU student to announce campaign for Syracuse councilor-at-large
Syracuse University senior Dan Cowen will announce Saturday that he plans to run for the position of Syracuse councilor-at-large.
Cowen will officially announce his campaign Saturday at 11 a.m. in Schiller Park.
A Wayland, Mass. native, Cowen fell in love with the city of Syracuse and sees the potential it has to become a “model city.”
“When I got to Syracuse I didn’t take the typical student route, the idea of staying on the Hill for four years and doing your class work and getting involved in community groups that mostly engage with other students,” he said. “I was really curious about the city of Syracuse and what was going on downtown.”
This interest in the city led Cowen to get involved with various community groups and projects, such as establishing a language exchange program and working to create an entrepreneurship incubator to assist the Congolese refugee community.
Cowen is a political science and policy studies major with a minor in entrepreneurship and emerging enterprises. He is also part of the Renee Crown University Honors program and a 2012-2013 Remembrance Scholar.
