Several people sent to hospital, arrested during Mayfest, Block Party
During the timeframe of both Mayfest and Block Party on Friday, a number of people were either sent to the hospital or arrested for behavior during and before the two events.
In addition to several people being transported by ambulance to local hospitals for intoxication, there were two arrests outside of the Carrier Dome before doors opened for Block Party at 6:30 p.m. One arrest was for disorderly conduct and another was for harassment, said John Sardino, associate chief of law enforcement and community policing for the Department of Public Safety.
Sardino added that there were no security issues at either event.
Interim DPS Chief Jill Lentz said in an email the events “went fairly well without any big issues.”
Lentz added that according to Syracuse University Ambulance, the medical tent was much more subdued this year due to the colder weather. Overall, SUA evaluated a total of five students and had two transports to local hospitals.
Lentz said, also according to SUA, the campus and surrounding areas were a little more lively with a total of nine EMS calls involving students with eight of those being transports to local hospitals.
There were about 7,000-8,000 people in attendance for Mayfest throughout the entire event and even though it was colder this year, Lentz said she thought the event went well.
Lentz said one student was arrested at Block Party on charges of harassment, disorderly conduct and criminal possession of a controlled substance. She added that there were a couple minor injuries sustained from spectators during Block Party.
