Four trends from New York Fashion Week

Fashion Week is one of the few times out of the year that models, celebs, designers, makeup artists and editors all get together to celebrate really good fashion. It’s like you enter into a new world of glitz and glam, with really bright lights, beautiful garments worn by beautiful girls and pounding music that heightens all your senses. And out of that week come the new trends that will govern what’s in and what’s out for the next six months. Here are the most wearable trends that have come from Fashion Week so far. Whichever trend you decide to try, you just have to go for it. This season is all about going bold or going home.

1. The ’80s –

Say bye-bye to the ‘70s trend and hello to a new decade. The ’80s are all about bright colors, denim, short skirts and — well — anything tight-fitted. For some inspiration, look to Betsey Johnson, Alexander Wang and A Detacher. To wear this trend, take out your brightest colored pieces, put them all together and pair them with more muted colored accessories. Or, if color isn’t your thing, you can never go wrong with ’80s punk – lots of black, leather and plaid. Fingers crossed that ’80s hair will never make a comeback.

2. The Deep V –

Forget all your turtlenecks (or just keep them locked up for a chilly day) because designers Zachary/Nathaniel, Prabal Gurung and Rebecca Minkoff are reversing the necklines. Now the necklines are going super deep. It’s a trend that can easily be worn at night, say when you’re going out to the bar or at a friend’s party. If you’re going to wear a deep V during the day it’s important to keep it tasteful and wear a bandeau or bra underneath that won’t make it too revealing. Also, pair it with a bottom (or if it’s a dress, one with a longer skirt) that will cover you up — you don’t want to show too much skin.

3. “Athleisure” –

The sweats are no longer just for the gym or lounging anymore. And those Adidas originals you swore to yourself you would never wear again after eighth grade, yep bring those back out. With this look, you will look like you might be going to/coming from the gym, but no one will ask because you just look too cool. Follow the lead of brands Lacoste, 6397 and Tommy Hilfiger by wearing a pair of loose fitting pants with a more structured shirt or vice versa and pull it all together with a pair of your favorite sneaks.

4. Wild Prints –

While monochromatic will always be in style, it’s time to bring out your inner wild child just like designers Monique Lhuillier, Jeremy Scott and Mara Hoffman. Go bold with a crazy animal print or a neon Aztec print. Don’t let any print scare you. Try to pick one garment that has a wild print and pair it with a basic item (or if you really want to go for it, have your whole outfit be printed). Let yourself go and let your print do all the talking for you.
