Syracuse football recruiting: 2016 linebacker Andrew Armstrong becomes 8th commit in Dino Babers era

Class of 2016 linebacker Andrew Armstrong verbally committed to Syracuse, he confirmed to The Daily Orange in a Twitter direct message. WKBN’s Chad Krispinsky first reported the news Tuesday night.

Until Dec. 10, Armstrong was committed to Bowling Green, where SU head coach Dino Babers used to have the same position. Babers, Syracuse’s new head coach, has also brought in six of his former assistants from the Falcons. The Cardinal Mooney (Ohio) High School linebacker took an official visit to Syracuse this past weekend.

Armstrong is now the 13th member of the Orange’s 2016 class after fellow linebacker Taylor Riggins decommitted from SU just a few hours earlier on Tuesday. He’s the second linebacker in Syracuse’s 2016 recruiting class joining early enrollee Kenneth Ruff. Camden (New Jersey) High School linebacker Dymelle Parker was originally recruited by Scott Shafer’s staff and he decommitted from SU on Dec. 12.

Under Babers, eight players have committed to Syracuse while 10 have left the class. Armstrong is unranked by 247Sports.com’s composite rankings but is listed with two stars according to Scout.com. Armstrong is listed on Scout at 6 feet 2 inches and 210 pounds.

With two weeks until National Signing Day on Feb. 3, Syracuse’s recruiting action is heating up. Follow along for continued recruiting coverage leading up to Feb. 3 here.

Here’s a list of players that have committed to SU since Babers’ hiring:

Airon Servais — offensive lineman

Kenneth Ruff — linebacker

Liam O’Sullivan — offensive lineman

Carl Jones — cornerback

Kendall Coleman — defensive end

Sean Riley — athlete

Devon Clarke — safety
