Here is a roundup of the lectures and forums happening this weekend:

Black Law Students Association forum

The Black Law Students Association will host an interactive forum in Dineen Hall on Friday called “It’s Been a Privilege.” The forum will address the definition of privilege and how people can leverage their privilege to cause social change, according to an SU News release.

Alphonse Williams, the president of the Black Law Students Association, said the event’s format will be based on the board game, Life.

The event is free and open to all Syracuse University students. It will take place from 1 to 4 p.m.

 

Civil engineer discusses water education

Shahzeen Attari, an assistant professor at Indiana University Bloomington, will visit the College of Engineering and Computer Science on Friday to discuss educating the general public on water systems. Many people are uninformed about how water operates outside of the home, according to an abstract of Attari’s talk on the event’s web page.

Attari will introduce a project she is working on that would educate people on water systems through a game format called WaterWorks.

The event will take place in 152 Link Hall at 3:30 p.m.

 

State of Democracy Lecture Series

The Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs will host the first State of Democracy lecture of the year with speaker Robert Grenier. The State of Democracy lecture series is one of the Maxwell School’s most important public events, according to the event’s website.

Grenier served on the CIA’s Clandestine Service for 27 years and played a key role in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. In his final two years in the CIA, Grenier served as director of the CIA Counter-Terrorism Center.

The event will start at 4 p.m. in Maxwell Auditorium and is open to the public.

 

Women in Business roundtable

An open roundtable for women in creative businesses will take place on Thursday at the WISE Women’s Business Center (WBC). The theme of the discussion will be “content marketing tips for creative businesses,” according to the event’s web page.

WISE, or Women Igniting the Spirit of Entrepreneurship, was developed in the Falcone Center for Entrepreneurship in the Martin J. Whitman School of Management.

The roundtable meets every other Thursday and runs from noon to 1 p.m. People must register beforehand to participate.

 

Artists’ roundtable discussion

A panel of five artists will discuss their work and the contemporary art scene on Thursday in Watson Auditorium. Tim Lowly, Joel Sheesley, Robert Birmelin, Bill Murphy and Gillian Pederson-Krag are currently showing their work as part of the exhibition “Poetry of Content: Five Contemporary Representational Artists.”

The artists are all contemporary painters. They will discuss aesthetics and choosing subjects and media, according to the event’s web page.

The exhibit will run until March 20. The panel will go from 7 to 9 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
