Syracuse (3-1) was ranked No. 23 in the latest Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll, following a 2-1 loss to unranked Cornell on Sept. 7.

“It was a negative experience, but we can take positives out of it,” senior Claire Webb said following the loss. “I think our team’s very resilient, so we can take what we can from this game and build for the next ones.”

The Orange were previously ranked No. 18 in the preseason poll, the lowest of any team in the Atlantic Coast Conference. SU is coming off a season where it tallied its worst record (8-8) since 2003 and missed the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2007.

Syracuse opened the season with three straight victories against unranked opponents. It won each by a goal, including overtime victories against Vermont and Lafayette. Freshman Charlotte de Vries scored a goal in each of the Orange’s four games. She also tallied the game-winning goals against Vermont and UMass Lowell. De Vries has scored five of the team’s nine goals, and no other player has more than one.

The Orange host No. 14 St. Joseph’s on Sept. 13 at J.S. Coyne Stadium.
