The report does not provide details about the screenshot nor states where on campus the incident occurred.

A screenshot containing racist comments targeting Black students was sent to a student’s cell phone Saturday, the Department of Public Safety announced Monday.

DPS is actively investigating the incident, the department said in a bias incident report. The report does not provide details about the racist comments and does not state where the incident occurred.

A bias incident that occurred on the 100 block of College Place shortly before midnight Saturday is reported in DPS crime logs. The incident is under investigation, the crime logs said.

At least 30 racist, anti-Semitic or homophobic incidents have occurred at or near Syracuse University since early November. Racist graffiti targeting Black students has been found on several floors of Day Hall, and members of the Alpha Chi Rho fraternity were suspended in November for yelling a racial slur at a Black woman on College Place.

#NotAgainSU, a movement led by Black students, has been occupying Crouse-Hinds Hall since Feb. 17 as part of its ongoing protests of the university’s handling of hate crimes and bias incidents.
