Gallery: At the heart of Westcott Street lies the soul of its annual Cultural Fair

People of all ages play with bubbles bigger than their heads. The scene was a warm and exuberant space for people from a gamut of different backgrounds.

With beaming grins on their faces, vendors pause what they are doing to enjoy the action within the parade. The Westcott Street Cultural Fair happened on Oct. 1, from noon to 6:30 p.m.

A band entertains its listeners with a variety of instruments and sounds. The salsa and rock music on the stages echoed all the different musical scenes down Westcott.

Taller than the tents, a person on stilts towers over the fair's parade. The parade was filled with dancers, singers and people gowned from head to toe with tassels, bells, ribbons and other eclectic garments.

A tent of artists paints a portrait of a saxophonist, while a passerby snaps a photo. Many people at the fair walked around with cameras and captured memories of the lively bustle surrounding the day.

Children reach for the sky on the rock climbing wall in Kids Corner. The Petit Branch Library was designated as a spot where little ones and their families could enjoy toys, chess boards, facepaint, opera and a plethora of other activities.

An ocean of people fills the streets where the fair is held. People passed each other shoulder to shoulder in order to explore the crowded fairgrounds.

Rows of different organizations make their way down Westcott Street dressed in ribboned costumes and holding posters. The fair was set in motion with a parade that began at the corner of Euclid Avenue and Westcott Street.

The crowd bubbles with hollers and hoots as the parade dances by. Volunteers of the fair passed out streamers for guests to wave in the air.

Autumn trees encompassed by green, yellow and orange leaves tower over the neighborhood streets where the fair was held. The fair happened on the first day of October, which was full of sunshine and fall vibrancy.

Like a ballerina in a music box, salsa dancers enter their audience with a dynamic performance. The stage also featured acrobats, a kids' dance company and other performative groups.
