Syracuse attack Joey Spallina has been selected to the United States’ roster for the 2024 World Lacrosse Box Championships, the team announced Wednesday. Spallina is one of 23 players on Team USA’s roster.

The tournament will be held in Utica, New York, from Sept. 20-29. Spallina was one of two collegiate players chosen for the squad, alongside Cornell’s CJ Kirst.

Spallina has played box lacrosse for the Orangeville Northmen in the Ontario Junior Lacrosse League for the past two summers. This year, Spallina helped the Northmen to an OJLL title playing alongside Syracuse teammates Trey Deere, Donny Scott and his brother, Jake Spallina. The attack recorded 202 points in 29 games.

After winning ACC Freshman of the Year in 2023, Spallina used box lacrosse to help refine his skills. He recorded over 100 points with the Northmen in his first season. Spallina returned to Orangeville and had an even better campaign in 2024.

On the field for Syracuse, Spallina has been one of the most productive players in the country. In 33 games across two seasons, Spallina has recorded 156 points (73 goals, 83 assists). Last year, Spallina led the Orange to their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2021.
