Syracuse’s men’s and women’s cross country teams each placed 12th at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational. The meet showcased several ranked teams in both races and proved to be a very competitive field against the Orange.

Following back-to-back first-place finishes, the men’s team placed 12th out of 24 schools, with no runners finishing inside of the top 25. BYU ran away with first place in the men’s 8k run, finishing with 44 points while beating second-place Iowa State by 64 points. Wake Forest (150 points), North Carolina (196 points) and Washington (246 points) rounded out the top five.

Junior Assaf Harari was first to cross the finish line for SU, placing 34th with a time of 24:02.3. Thirteen spots behind Harari was fellow junior Sam Lawler, finishing with a time of 24:11.7. The women’s team also took home 12th place, finishing just 11 points behind Virginia. Washington claimed the top spot in the women’s 6k run with 110 points. Utah took second with 139 points, and not too far behind it was Georgetown — which finished third with 145 points. Providence (180) and Wisconsin (182) closed out the top five.

Senior Savannah Roark snuck into the top 25, fishing 22nd with a time of 20:37.0. Freshman Jayden Herberts placed 60th with a 21:06.1 time, and six spots behind her was junior Emma Eastman (21:08.5).
