Class of 2016 three-star safety James Pierre committed to Syracuse on Saturday, per multiple reports. He was originally signed to North Carolina but had to decommit after UNC would not admit him.

The Deerfield Beach (Florida) product is listed at 6-foot-2 and 175 pounds. He runs a 4.52 in the 40-yard dash and has a vertical jump of 37 inches, per his Hudl.com profile.

Pierre held offers from Louisville, Miami (Florida), South Carolina, West Virginia and Wisconsin, among others. He also held an offer from Bowling Green, the former school of current SU head coach Dino Babers.

Scout has him ranked as the 65th best safety in the 2016 class, while 247sports.com’s composite rankings have him as the 48th best.

With this commitment, the 2016 class now features four safeties. Pierre joins Devon Clarke, Evan Foster and Scoop Bradshaw. Bradshaw is one of the four Orange commits in the class to have committed while former head coach Scott Shafer was still with SU.

Pierre is also the eighth commit from the class who attended high school in Florida, joining Bradshaw and Clarke, as well as Rex Culpepper, Jaquwan Nelson, McKinley Williams, Kenneth Ruff and Mo Hasan.
