The Associated Press named Syracuse wide receiver Steve Ishmael a third-team All-American on Monday, giving the senior his highest-touted postseason accolade yet.

The honor marks the second-straight season an SU player has earned a spot on one of the AP’s three teams. Wide receiver Amba Etta-Tawo broke the Orange’s 15-year drought — defensive end Dwight Freeney in 2001 was the last AP All-American for SU — and made the AP’s third-team a year ago after he set SU’s single-season receptions mark with 94 catches.

Ishmael eclipsed that record this season with 105 catches. He amassed 1,347 receiving yards, which brought his career total to 2,891, enough to top SU’s all-time list and pass his childhood idol, Marvin Harrison. He broke both records in SU’s season-finale loss to Boston College.

Ahead of Ishmael on the AP’s first team were James Washington of Oklahoma State and Anthony Miller of Memphis. West Virginia’s David Sills V and Colorado State’s Michael Gallup earned second-team honors. A.J. Brown of Mississippi joins Ishmael on the third team.
