SU men’s XC finishes 5th, women finish 8th at ACC championships

Syracuse's men's cross country finished in fifth place at ACC championships Saturday, while the women's team finished eighth.

Syracuse men’s and women’s cross country competed in the ACC Championships in Cary, North Carolina, Friday, with each team turning in strong performances.

The men’s squad placed fifth out of 17 schools with 122 points and had an average time of 23:04.6. Wake Forest came in first place with 60 points. Nine points behind them was Stanford while North Carolina placed third (80 points) and Virginia took fourth (94 points).

Junior Sam Lawler was first to cross the finish line for SU in the men’s 8k. He finished tenth with a time of 22:46.5. Fellow junior Assaf Harari wasn’t too far behind in 13th with a 22:55.0 time. Senior Alex Comerford nabbed 20th (23:00.5), with Benne Anderson placing 34th (23:12.1). Lawler, Harari and Comerford each earned All-ACC Honors for their top-20 finishes.

SU’s women’s team earned an eighth place finish with 197 points and had an average time of 20:27.22. Notre Dame took home the top spot with 115 points. Stanford and North Carolina each scored 121 points, with Virginia (152 points) and NC State (160 points) rounding out the top five.



In the women’s 6k, senior Savannah Roark placed 13th with a time of 19:55.0. Five spots behind her was junior Emma Eastman with a time of 20:08.4. Freshman Selma Anderson finished 50th (20:39.7), with senior Rylie Lusk taking 55th (20:43.9). Senior Heidi Demeo took 61st place with a time of 20:49.1. Roark and Eastman took home All-ACC Honors for their placements in the top 20.

The Orange will get a two-week break before heading to the NCAA Northeast Regional in New Hampshire on Friday, November 15th.
