Syracuse field hockey’s Bo van Kempen and Willemjin Boogert were named to All-Atlantic Coast Conference teams, the conference announced Monday. Van Kempen was named to the All-ACC First Team for the first time in her career, while Boogert was selected to the Second Team.

Van Kempen, a graduate defender from Zevenaar, Netherlands, took the ACC by storm in her first year in the United States. The transfer from the Netherlands’ Liemers College scored 15 goals in 16 games, which ranked second in the conference, only behind North Carolina’s Charly Bruder.

Though she was on defense, van Kempen turned SU’s offense into a high-scoring group. Syracuse ranked second in the ACC in goals scored, while van Kempen scored 36% of them. She also led the nation in game-winning goals, scoring nine in Syracuse’s 12 victories.

Besides her offensive contributions, van Kempen led a backline that allowed just 1.23 goals per game, including 1.25 in ACC play. During conference action, Syracuse held six of its eight opponents to one goal or less, including two shutouts at Duke and Wake Forest in back-to-back contests, where van Kempen played a key role.

Boogert, a Preseason All-ACC selection, lived up to her title. The senior midfielder ranked second on SU in goals with seven while also tallying its most assists with nine. Boogert’s primary role throughout the season was on penalty corners. Syracuse totaled 103 corner attempts on the year, third in the ACC, while Boogert aided in nine of SU’s 18 corner goals. Boogert also ranked second on SU’s roster with 23 points and had a run of seven games with at least one point, helping the Orange to a 6-1 record over that span.
